Director and Founder of SŌ STRINGS
Laura studied the violin at the Royal College of Music Junior Department with Esther Boda-Katona and went on to take her undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas at the Royal Northern College of Music with Maciej Rakowski. After graduating in 2002, Laura began her career as a professional violinist in the Orquestra do Algarve, Portugal.
She then returned to the UK and in 2007 was appointed the position of sub-principal violin in Northern Ballet Sinfonia. She also continues to enjoy a busy freelance orchestral career, regularly performing with major orchestras in the North-West such as Orchestra of Opera North, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Manchester Camerata and Manchester Concert Orchestra. Radio and TV Broadcasts include BBC (CBeebies, 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears', 2019's adaptation of 'Puss in Boots', Radio 3 recordings with Royal Northern Sinfonia, SKYArts 'Casanova', 'Victoria' recently which was broadcast 2019 at cinemas nationwide, and Channel 4. Recording sessions with artists including Bonnie Tyler, Richard Hawley, Wayne Sleep, sessions for Spotify, UNSO Club classics, and Ray Quinn. Cream Classical, Hacienda Classical, Ministry of Sound Classical 2019.
Laura has performed to Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Prince Phillip, HRH Prince Edward and performed alongside Classical Artists such as Katherine Jenkins, Leslie Garrett, Bryn Terfel, Jose Carreras, Russell Watson, Aled Jones, Hayley Westenra, and Alfie Boe to name but a few! Laura thoroughly enjoys her versatile performing career but is also incredibly passionate about teaching. Laura is the string tutor at Sandbach School and Sandbach High School, teaching individual lessons and chamber music.
Laura has created an opportunity for young, enthusiastic string players in the area to unite together and form the wonderful, exciting new string orchestra SŌ STRINGS.
